Good Luck With THAT!

“Luck? I don’t know anything about luck. I’ve never banked on it, and I’m afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else: Hard work – and realizing what is opportunity and what isn’t.” ~ Lucille Ball

My friends and I have a little pet phrase we say when one or the other of us doing something a little crazy or expecting some dramatic result. We say, sarcastically and with eyebrows raised, “Good luck with that.” Luck doesn’t exist. Sure, you can be in the “right place” at the “right time” but opportunity isn’t going to knock unless you are expecting it to show up. Working hard towards a goal is the fastest way to invite opportunity into your life. Sitting on your duff and expecting life to hand something over to you is absurd. Work hard, work often and opportunity will come.

I believe it was Thomas Edison who explained “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Boy was he right. And so is Lucille when she tells us we must realize what opportunity is and what isn’t. So many options are available to us today that it is often difficult to determine the good from the bad. So many rabbit trails, so little time… This is where goal setting comes in to play. Knowing what you want, who you want to be and where you want to be can help you filter out the distractions that turn out to be rabbit trails. (Rabbit trails are bad. Remember Alice in Wonderland? She followed the little white rabbit and look what happened to her.) You have to look for and recognize the gritty overalls – those are your true opportunities.

I always fight with my friend over that! She calls me crying saying that she has no luck, at last I told her: fine, I’ll go along with you, you have no luck, so you can either sit and whine about it, or do something useful to change it. Look for your weaknesses, there must be a reason for what you call a “bad luck”.

However, there are things that happen without you asking or working for them. But I still believe it’s all connected to what you do or believe. It’s like: everything is connected and interdependent some way or another. Even bad things, I don’t think we should call them bad luck. They are either things that we induce on ourselves or things that are just meant to be for some reason that may be unknown to us.

As for good luck, I do believe in it in my own way, but I don’t depend on it.

hmmmmm… i disagree a little coz i believe there is luck. people should not wait around for luck or things to happen, they should as you said work for it. However luck has its say as well, in my opinion.

Exactly!! Some things happens to us we don’t expect it, I agree, cuz we also belive in what we call “naseeb” these are the ones that meant to be, but setting and whining that some people just have bad luck! And that they are victims in this life just because of they don’t have luck, I totally disagree with them, get off your butt and make things happen the way you want it, work for it, and do it right.

As I said, you can be in the right place in the right time, OK.. but if you don’t work for your goals, no luck in the world will help you, opportunities don’t come to people like that, they actually look for it, now the harder you work, the bigger your chance, now is that luck too, Hmmm I don’t think so 🙂

I believe in luck too! But I can’t consider someone lucky the whole time! u see, sometimes you have good luck and othertimes, it’s just bad luck! No matter how much effort you put into something to work out, at the end you might succeed or just fail…then you find yourself saying: 7azzzzzzzzzz

Wallah ya Mai, i believe in luck.. but i believe there is a way to reduce the amount of “lucky” situation also.

i.e I hate it when i study 100 pages and then the question that comes in the exam is in page 101. When some other guy studied the questions on page 101 only.
